HANUKKIAH
Nine-branched candlelabrum for Hanukkah, the festival of lights which falls annually in the period of the winter solstice. The eight-day holiday is celebrated in homes by lighting the eight lights (candles or oil lamps) of a special candlestick, in memory of an ancient prodigy that took place in Jerusalem at the time of the Maccabees. Actually Hanukkiah actually has nine branches; the ninth (called shamash or “assistant”) is used to kindle the other lights. Discover the items donated to the Jewish Museum Lecce:
