The exhibition "Puglia, crossroads of the Mediterranean - Mobility of people, goods and cultures", curated by Fabrizio Lelli and Fabrizio Ghio, explores the historical position of Apulia as a meeting point of different civilizations and cultures, thanks to its strategic geographical position. Over the centuries, the region has hosted numerous peoples, including Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, Saracens, Ottomans and Jews, who have influenced each other. Although today Puglia is no longer a transit point for emigration, its cultural heritage remains visible in local traditions, architecture and customs. The exhibition highlights how, in the Middle Ages, Puglia was an intellectual and geographical center of the Mediterranean, then becoming, with the modern age, a "periphery" of the West, while preserving traces of that cultural plurality.
In parallel is the personal contemporary art by Lenore Mizrachi-Cohen, "Wander, Persist, Survive", curated by Fiammetta Martegani. The artist, of Jewish-Syrian origin, explores the identity and cultural dynamics of the Jewish people, using Arabic calligraphy and mixed techniques such as embroidery, photography and video art. His work reflects on the historical memory and resistance of the Jewish people, addressing universal themes such as the struggle for survival and adaptation, drawing inspiration from his personal experience and the history of the Jewish people. The two exhibitions, put into dialogue, offer a shared reflection on past and present, history and art, with the aim of transmitting a deep and engaging historical narrative to an international and intergenerational public, consolidating Puglia as a major cultural destination.
Wednesday 16 April 2025 - Thursday 24 April 2025
The two exhibitions will be open to the public from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm, from 16 to 24 April 2025.
