On Tuesday, October 26 2021, the Jewish Museum Lecce will open the exhibition "FROM THE MAINLAND TO PROMISED LAND: ALIYA BET FROM ITALY TO ISRAEL, 1945-1948", in cooperation with
Pugliapromozione, Museo Eretz Israel of Tel Aviv and Fondazione Museo della Shoah of Rome.

It was opened in 2016 at the Eretz Israel Museum in Tel Aviv, Israel, with the President of the Italian Republic Sergio Mattarella. The exhibition was hosted in Milan, Rome and La Spezia, gaining wide public support. In 2021 it arrived at the Jewish Museum in Lecce. The exhibition narrates, through an evocative journey of images with extensive captions, one of the most important periods of Jewish history, following the tragedy of the Shoah and announcing the constitution of the State of Israel. The beautiful black and white photos document the stay of Jewish refugees, mostly survivors of extermination camps, in transit camps (DP Camps) organized in Italy, especially in Puglia, in the period following their liberation and their departure for clandestine emigration (Aliya Bet) to the Land of Israel.
